About Earth Imagining

Earth Imagining is a web directory of ideas for good ways of being human on our home planet, earth.

Throughout my life, I have been interested in big questions (where are we from? Where are we going? What deeper currents and meanings are moving beneath the surface of our lives?...).

Today, we are living in a time of global flux, change and transformation.

I have noticed that in these times, it is much easy to turn on our media devices and find complaints, grievance, protests, doom-saying and visions of what problems await us as we approach the eve of destruction.

Lately, I have been asking this question: If these dystopian visions of our future are telling us what NOT TO DO and what we DON'T WANT, then where can we go to find people who are providing us with a vision of what TO DO and what we DO WANT?

This web directory has emerged out of my search for people who have been answering this question. These articles, books, talks and films are from people who strike me as creative and curious and original thinkers.

Here is the philosophical framework that I have used in putting this directory together:

More soul. Less greed.
More wisdom. Less noise.
More dreams. Less waste.
Less exploitation.
More imagination.

The singer Pete Seeger once said “If there’s a world here in a hundred years, it’s going to be saved by tens of millions of little things.”

This website (earthimagining.com) is a directory of links to dreams. It is a small library of media that envisions future directions for our human family.

My intention here is to present links to 329 of these "tens of millions of little things"...along with some big ideas and inspired visions. None of the links are to my own content. They are from people who have altered and expanded my sense of what is real and what can be in our lives here on this earth. Each link connects to a different person or group, so there are 329 authors/ speakers/ makers/ dreamers listed here.

Some of the topics covered here are primal (women, men, water, dwellings).
Some topics are practical (economy, cities, work, craft).
Some topics are cultural (consciousness, roots, crisis, recovery).
The idea is to present imaginative ideas that touch upon the full spectrum of human life on this planet.

Some of the people listed in this directory/ media library are current change makers with a significant following.

Other people and ideas listed here are rare, obscure finds from long ago.

What I think might be most unusual is seeing all these ideas and visions brought together in one place, presenting a whole, global picture of another possible world.
